Simon leads the UK technical team and specialises in the design and development of Smalley wave springs and spiral retaining rings. He is now widely considered the leading authority on Smalley products.
Incorporating both a Single-Turn, a Crest-to-Crest Wave Spring, and a Spirolox retaining ring. The Rotary Union benefits from three Smalley products to improve performance.
The union cross section of the Wave Spring allows it to be installed in the assembly without interfering with mating components. The single turn wave spring takes up play and reduces vibration in a bearing preload capacity.
The force of the Crest-to-Crest Wave spring, when compressed, helps create a seal to prevent fluid from flowing from the high pressure to the low pressure side of the union.
The two-turn Spirolox Ring uses it’s uniform cross-section to offer full 360 degree retention of the bearing and it’s mating products within the housing. Easily removable for servicing with no custom tooling required.
